Market profile
Vietnam's medical technology market is growing relentlessly. Fitch Solutions expects an average annual growth of 10 percent through 2028. The reasons lie in rising demand due to an aging population, growing incomes and the steady expansion of the health insurance system. The treatment of chronic diseases is playing an increasingly important role.
Furthermore, the rapidly expanding private hospital sector is significantly driving demand. At the same time, the government is making substantial investments in the expansion of hospital infrastructure and is actively advancing digitalization. In addition, approximately 300,000 medical tourists travel to Vietnam each year for treatment. As Vietnam has only a limited number of domestic medical technology manufacturers, the country must import nearly 90 percent of the medical products it requires, generally subject to low tariffs. Germany also benefits from this, ranking third among Vietnam’s import partners after the United States and Japan. Moreover, the domestic pharmaceutical industry faces considerable demand as it seeks to increase local drug production in the future.
Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city in Vietnam and serves as the country’s economic hub. Formerly known as Saigon, it was the capital of the Republic of Vietnam until 1975. In 1976, it was renamed after the late state leader Ho Chi Minh. Today, approximately 10 million people live in this vibrant metropolis. Ho Chi Minh City is an industrial center, a major transportation hub and a cultural focal point, home to universities, theaters, and historic landmarks from the French colonial era. It is also a popular tourist destination, known for its dynamic nightlife.
