Press release from 4/5/17 | LMI - Leipziger Messe International GmbH

New training congress with industry exhibition for orthopaedic and rehabilitation technology in Russia

Event staged in Moscow by Leipziger Messe International finds favour with the entire sector

Leipziger Messe International (LMI) has created a totally new event format for orthopaedic technology in Russia. LMI has succeeded in involving all market stakeholders among both suppliers and buyers from all over Russia in the development of the Russian Forum on Prosthetics & Orthotics. Until now, training courses in orthopaedic and rehabilitation technology in Russia have been few and far between, meaning there is a huge demand for further training and interdisciplinary dialogue among technicians, doctors and therapists. The new concept responds to this by setting up a training and development platform.

The congress accompanied by an industry exhibition will take place during the Integration.Life.Society exhibition organized by Messe Düsseldorf Moscow from 14 to 16 June 2017. In terms of both content and concept, the Russian Forum on Prosthetics & Orthotics builds on Leipziger Messe GmbH’s experience from the OTWorld International Trade Show and World Congress, which will next be held from 15 to 18 May 2018.

    Russian market brimming with potential

Experts from Russia and abroad will be coming together at the RFPO in Moscow to debate future developments in orthopaedic and rehabilitation technology in Russia and establish new business relationships. “The Russian market welcomes new foreign suppliers,” explains Ulrich Briese, LMI’s project director. Over 90 per cent of the medical products sold in Russia are imported. Despite the economic and trade sanctions, Russian orthopaedic imports increased substantially between 2009 and 2016, and totalled more than US$490 million in 2015 alone.

    Powerful alliance

The RFPO is partly supported by Russia’s new government holding company uniting all state suppliers as well as the Russian Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, which will be hosting its own conference at the Forum. Consequently, all 70 state workshops will be in attendance. In addition, the Russian medical assessment institution MSE and the FSS Social Insurance Fund will be holding their own events at the Forum for their representatives in the Russian regions. Both institutions play a key role in the treatment of non-private patients and are therefore an important target group for manufacturers. Last but not least, Moscow Department of Health is assisting LMI with inviting doctors and therapists.

    Interdisciplinary dialogue, international experts

The Forum will have an interdisciplinary and above all practical structure. It will address areas such as patient evaluation, individually deciding the type of treatment to be applied, and medical treatment itself, including the selection of products available as well as technical support for patients and their rehabilitation. Meanwhile, the aspects dealt with during the training programme will range from the adjustment of prostheses and orthoses to the treatment of disabled children and complications caused by diabetes. The preparation of the congress is being supported by an international advisory board.

Parallel to the congress, international market leaders as well as prominent wholesalers, manufacturers and workshops from Russia will be showcased at the industry exhibition. Practical demonstrations of the manufacture and adjustment of cutting-edge products will be given at exhibitors’ seminars, in open presentations and the daily premiere show.

    German Day

In co-operation with the German Association of Orthopaedic Technology (BIV-OT), a special German Day will be held on the second day of the RFPO. Experts from Germany will be talking on subjects such as medical and technical aspects of prostheses for the lower and upper extremities.

    Cybathletics The unique contest

Various orthopaedic aids in action will be directly compared during the Kybathlon contest. Organized by Motorika with the support of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade as well as the Skolkovo Innovation Centre, teams of patients fitted with various orthoses and prostheses for the upper and lower extremities and the torso will be competing against each other. These Russian championship will be augmented by a conference on the development of the Russian medical technology industry.
